Psychic Powers Then and Now Today psychic powers are considered odd, unusual and not available to everyone. In ancient times people with psychic powers were important public figures. Everyone has psychic powers and abilities. Not everyone chooses to use and maximize their potential through relaxation, meditation or lucid dreaming. Mind machines will assist you in deepening relaxation, increase the ease with which you reach a meditative state and may produce vivid lucid dreams. Almost every mother will tell you a story of "knowing" about an incident her child was involved in. Most people would laugh this off as "women's intuition" rather than psychic power. As the demands of daily living occupy conscious awareness, the subconscious will slip through the vale and provide insight and information not being considered. Hence, the "knowing" incident, the "women's intuition" the psychic power. In ancient culture the shaman, was usually a male. This title was often passed from father to son. Today a growing number of females are called shaman and serve in the ancient capacity of spiritual healer and advisor. In Western societies, less and less men are currently associated with this role. The shaman may have demonstrated unusual behavior - having visions of spirits or gods, developing a solitary nature and wandering alone into forest or mountains for weeks. The shaman generally went through a dramatic crisis of initiation before he can fully assume the role. Visions may in some cases lead to convulsions and unconsciousness. In this state the person might experience a horrific dram or vision. Te ordeal is preparation for habitual contact with the spirit world. A shaman may "see" his own death. When the novice shaman recovered consciousness he was considered to have exceptional spiritual powers necessary to act a shaman/spiritual leader/seer/sage. Dr. Margaret Mead, a world renowned anthropologist, noted that ESP is not considered unusual in some cultures. She observed that psychic ability may be more common among people who recognize and support its development and use. Dr. Mead believed that parapsychology was a legitimate area of scientific investigation. Shamanic powers depend upon the person's ability to enter a trance state. In this state the soul separates from the body. Shaman fast and mortify their flesh in solitude until a visions appears or a spirit voice speaks. This is something accompanied by public ritual with insistent drumming and rhythmic dancing. This assists the shaman in entering a trance state. In South American Countries shaman may ingest hallucinogenic plants or drinks. Mind machines with pulsating light and binaural beats may produce the same state of consciousness. When in a trace, the shaman may speak with spirit voice - similar to that of spiritualist mediums. Most shamans simply provide a commentary on what they witness and undergo during their psychic journey. In trance, shamans believe that their souls are separated from their bodies. They can fly through the air at will, across the earth and through the supernatural spaces of heaven and hell. The can capture souls and steal or return them to their owners. They believe they can communicate with spirits and with the souls of the dead. They may be capable of becoming invisible or disguising themselves as animals. They can perceive events in the future. Most of all they are impervious to fire and pain. (Don't try this) Psychic flight is not restricted to spiritual matters. A shaman can also accomplish the feat of remote viewing while in a trance state Or, they may be asked to "visit" the scene of a crime in order to identify the perpetrator. Police will ask clairvoyants to help them in investigations. The role of shaman carries various responsibilities: controlling the weather, identifying the location of animals to hunt, interceding with the spirits to guarantee good hunting, foretelling the future and locating valuable lost objects. The main role, is to cure the sick. Western faith healer's practices are similar to that of a shaman. Spiritualist and mediums conduct séances in a similar fashion. Students of the paranormal are familiar with out of body experiences, remote viewing and clairvoyance. Many people have lost contact with their irrational, instinctive, spiritual nature. In Western culture is scientific and rational and often ignores or denies the use of psychic powers. As humans evolved the sense of smell diminished. So, with psychic ability and powers. We reply on "experts" rather than trust our own judgment and intuition. Ancient man could not turn on the weather channel he need to read the signs of nature and trust his instincts. The ancient Romans and Greeks recognized and respected the use of psychic powers. Their oracles were important and respect members of the society. Temples were built to honor these individuals and their divine powers. Egyptian society made a direct link between king and God. Major government decisions were only made after consultation with an Oracle. Spend time relaxing with a mind machine as you open your third eye to the wonders and mysteries of the universe.
